Inglés empresarial I


Aquí iré colgando cosas de inglés, sobretodo para acostumbrarme a escribirlo, y para aclarar(me) algunas cosas de la pronunciación que escribiré entre /xxx/ pero como no domino la lingüistica, lo haré tal como a mi me suena. Respetaré los capitulos (units) del libro que se sigue en clase (“market leader”) aunque añadiré lo que me vaya apeteciendo. Principalmente vocabulario de películas de zombies.

Unit 3

Workforce: the employees in a particular country or business.
Market share: the percentage of sales a company has in a particular market.
Share price: The cost of a company’s shares.
Turnover: the amount of money a company receives from sales in a particular period.
Profit: the money a company makes after taking away its costs.

Cash flow (flujo de dinero): the sum of the after-tax profit of a business plus depreciation and other noncash charges: used as an indication of internal funds available for stock dividends, purchase of buildings and equipment, etc.

To enquire (inquirir): to ask for information

Cut-throat (despiadado)
bricks-and-mortar: operating in a building, not on the internet.
a margin: the difference between the cost of buying or producing something and the price you sell it for.
to shop about: to go to different shops to compare prices and quality.

Modal verbs:
need to = must to = have to = obligation to do something
should to = ought to = suggestion to do something
We use should or souldn’t to say that it is a good or a bad idea to do something
We use have to or need to to say that something is necessary or very important
We use don’t have to or don’t need to if something is not necessary.
Mustn’t is used to say that somebody is not allowed to do something.

Employees in large multinationals have excellent career oportunities if they are willing to travel.
Some people take a career break to do something adventurous

Ambitious people often decide on a career plan while they are still at school or university.

When you work flexitime you can arrange your own schedule, wich is very convenient sometimes.
Luke is quite ambitious and does not want to be a sales assistant all his life, in fact, he hopes to get a promotion very soon.

In addition to your salary, you will earn bonus for achieving monthly targets.
